WELLS — Corey Zinck, son of Stephen and Nancy Zinck of Wells, has accepted an offer to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree announced recently. Pingree nominated Zinck to the academy in December.
“Acceptance to a U.S. service academy is extremely competitive and reflects highly on a student’s scholarship, community service and character,” said Pingree. “I’m very pleased that Corey was accepted to West Point and appreciate his commitment to serving the country. I wish him all the best in what promises to be a bright career.”
Zinck currently attends Valley Forge Military Academy.
In his application letter, Zinck wrote, “It has been my intent, since joining the Civil Air Patrol in 2010, to pursue a career in the United States Military. The decision to serve is not one catalyzed by a pursuit of financial excess or selfish personal progression. It is a reflection of one’s commitment to the betterment of this nation; an exhibition of people defending their freedoms.”
To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by an authorized source, which includes members of Congress.
