WARREN (AP) — A Maine State Prison inmate has been formally charged with murder in the stabbing death of another inmate.
State police announced Tuesday that murder charges were brought against Richard Stahursky, who’s expected to make his first court appearance on Thursday. For now, he remains in the Maine State Prison, and it’s unclear if he’s being represented by a lawyer.
Investigators say Starhursky killed 37-year-old Micah Boland Friday.
The state’s deputy chief medical examiner said Boland died from multiple stab wounds to the face, neck and torso, along with blunt trauma to the head that caused fractures and brain injury.
The prison warden says the inmate’s death upset staff and other inmates, but the prison is safer than it was a year ago. The state’s maximum security prison has 880 inmates.
