March 7-28: A special 20-hour volunteer training will prepare you to be part of the VNA Home Health Hospice team bringing comfort to individuals and families facing a terminal illness. Training takes place four Fridays, March 7, 14, 21, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and March 28 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at VNA Home Health Hospice, 50 Foden Road, South Portland. Saturday, March 8: Stewart P. Morrill American Legion Post 35 in South Portland, is hosting a corned beef supper 4:30-6:30 p.m. Corned beef, cabbage, vegetables, deserts, coffee, tea, punch. Adults $10. Children 3 to 12 years old $3. Post 35 is at 413 Broadway, South Portland.

March 8: Scarborough Community Services is hosting a special passport event at the Scarborough Municipal Building from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications. Information on the cost and how to apply for a U.S. passport is available at the official website travel.state.gov. Check the website for necessary documents that should accompany the passport application. When applying, bring two checks. One check will go with the application and the second check will go to the Town of Scarborough for the agent fee.

Thursday, March 13: The Scarborough High School Chorus presents its annual Chorus Cabaret and Silent Auction. The auction runs from 6-9 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m. in the Winslow Homer Auditorium at Scarborough High School. Suggested donation is $5.

March 13: From 7-8:30 p.m. at Scarborough Town Hall, the Scarborough Land Trust will hold its annual meeting and a featured program on the Benjamin Farm which it is working to purchase and protect. Open to the public, all are welcome. Light refreshments. Highlights of the property’s natural resources and historic footage of its rich farming heritage. Monday, March 17: A Community Cafe luncheon will be held at noon at Blue Point Congregational Church, 236 Pine Point Road, Scarborough. Donation of $5 for seniors, 60 and over; $7 for under 60. Reservations required by March 13 so call 510-4974. Guest entertainment “T&A” (Themi & Alec). On the menu are pot roast, mashed potatoes, veggies, beverage and dessert.

Tuesday, March 18: Stop by Otto Pizza in South Portland from 5-9pm to help support the Mahoney Middle School PTA. A portion of all sales, including dine-in, take-out and delivery, will be donated toward the PTA. There will also be a bake sale, a raffle for gift baskets, gift cards, excursions, and more. Too busy to stop by, call OTTO, 773-7099, for free delivery or take out between 5-9 p.m. and those sales will help out the PTA also.

Wednesday, March 26: Androscoggin Bank’s Trust and Wealth Management Group will host a workshop on housing choices for aging seniors from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Scarborough Public Library. The workshop will be led by elder law attorney Ed Saxby, of South Portland Elder Law.

There is no charge for the seminar, but attendees must register no later than March 20. Guests are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation to benefit the South Portland Food Cupboard.
