Foundation to hold ‘Give-a-way Celebration’
The Robbie Foundation will hold its Give-a-way Celebration on Saturday, March 1, at 11 a.m. at the Morrison Center in Scarborough. WCSH’s Sharon Rose-Vaznis will emcee the event.
The Scarborough-based foundation raises money for children and young adults with disabilities to purchase adaptive equipment, therapy treatments that the not covered by insurance. To date the Robbie Foundation has given away nearly $70,000 worth of items to special-needs children throughout the state.
The celebration, which will be attended by Robbie Foundation board members and community leaders, will feature donations to more than 20 different special-needs children and their families. The items include an adaptive tricycle, wheelchair accessible ramp, iPads, security and a “brailer,” which is a specialized typewriter to assist a visually impaired child. The Morrison Center is located at 60 Chamberlain Road, Scarborough.
Big Brothers Big Sisters seeking volunteer ‘Bigs’
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine, serving youth in Cumberland and York counties, is accepting applications from men and women interested in being a volunteer Big Brother or Big Sister. Volunteers, known as “Bigs,” are adult friends and role models for children who need additional support and guidance.
A match is made based on the volunteer’s and child’s needs, preferences, interests and hobbies. The program allows some flexibility with scheduling and requires a one-year commitment.
