Saco River Theatre given $7,500 from SIS Bank

SIS Bank recently announced that it has provided the Saco River Theatre of Bar Mills with $7,500 to support the organization’s theatrical and artistic presentations.

“The Saco River Theatre is an important community institution, one we take great pride in supporting,” said SIS Bank President & CEO Mark T. Mickeriz. “We’re very excited to play a small role in making the upcoming year of productions possible.”

The Saco River Theatre is a nonprofit performing arts center founded in 1990. Home to The Originals, a professional theater company known for its diverse and engaging productions, the theater also hosts dance performances and concerts by local and national acts.

Events begin in April with the Grammy-award winning duo Eldridge and Lage, followed by The Originals’ production of “Marvin’s Room” by Scott McPherson, winner of the 1992 Drama Desk and Outer Critic Circle Awards.

A brand new SRT website will launch in March with the full season’s schedule at www.sacorivertheatre.org.

“Year in and year out, SIS Bank has shown incredible generosity,” said Saco River Theatre president Dana Packard. “This year’s contribution is especially helpful and we can’t thank them and their customers enough. “

DiPietro Scholarship applications being accepted

Applications for the $1,500 Joseph A. DiPietro Scholarship are now being accepted.

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is May 15.

The scholarship serves students in the Portland Water District’s member communities who will attend college and strive toward the same mission as PWD – protect public health and the environment.

The award was established in 2003 in memory of longtime Portland Water District Trustee Joe DiPietro.

People’s United Foundation awards $48,036 to nonprofits

The People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, headquartered in Bridgeport, Conn., has awarded $48,036 in grants to nonprofit organizations throughout the communities it serves in Maine.

Nine organizations received funding to support activities that ranged from education programs and basic needs services to workforce development programs.

The awards and recipients included $21,036 to United Way organizations statewide, $5,000 to the Island Institute of Rockland, $4,500 to Literacy Volunteers of Bangor, $4,000 to Jobs for Maine’s Graduates and $2,500 each to Learning Works of Portland, Bon Apetit Community Meal Program of Biddeford, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Bath-Brunswick and York County Community Action Corps of Sanford.

Chamberlain Society seeks memorial fund donations

Monday marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Civil War veteran, hero and famous Maine son Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain.

In remembrance, the Joshua Chamberlain Society and joshualawrencechamberlain.com will start a memorial fund that honors Chamberlain’s legacy while helping modern-day wounded warriors.

Contributions to the Joshua Chamberlain Memorial Fund may be sent by mail to the Joshua Chamberlain Society, P.O. Box 8475, Olivette, MO 63132.

Checks should be made out to the Joshua Chamberlain Society with “JLC Memorial Fund” written in the memo line.

The Joshua Chamberlain Society is a grass-roots, 501(c)(3) federally tax-exempt charity that was formed with the mission of providing long-term support to American veterans who sustain permanent combat injuries while fighting the war against terror, and to the children of soldiers who make the ultimate sacrifice while engaged in military service.
