Country music fundraiser

The Maine Country Music Association is holding an awards show fundraiser from 12:30-4 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, at American Legion Post 197, 300 Conant St., Westbrook.

The event features the EZ Rider Band. Hall of fame inductees set to appear are Portland’s Betty Gribbin and Gloria Jean of Westbrook, who recently recalled appearing as a guest in 1958 on Ken MacKenzie’s local TV show that featured Gribbin.

In addition to music, other features include raffle items, door prizes, and a 50/50 drawing. Food includes homemade chop suey, cole slaw, Italian bread, butter, and hot fudge brownies.

Admission is $5, and food $5.

Westbrook City Clerk Lynda Adams recently earned the status of certified municipal clerk from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, announced John Myers of Buxton, president of the Maine Town and City Clerks Association.

Correa on dean’s list

Andrew J. Correa of Westbrook has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Virginia Tech. Correa is a freshman majoring in animal and poultry sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Knight excels

Deborah Elizabeth Knight has earned president’s list honors for the fall semester at Eastern Kentucky University. Knight, a senior, is an occupational safety major.

Westbrook students last week appear with musician Al Hawkes in his recording studio to perform on a CD he’s producing about the joys of living in Maine. The students sang “The Westbrook Song” that Hawkes wrote. CD profits will benefit the Parkinson Association of Maine. Singers are, from left, Westbrook High School senior Delaney Baither; and sixth-graders Eliza Bureau, Rachel Richards, Nate Jacobs, Angelica Johns, Megan Fletcher and Lucas Carrier. High school chorus director Michelle Snow and Lisa Andrade of the middle school directed the students. Barbara and Leon Fogg, who were married in 1955, dance during Friday’s “Sweetheart Dance” at Avita of Stroudwater on Spring Street. The Fogg’s were one of two couples who renewed their marriage vows and danced at the senior care facility on Valentine’s Day.
