‘Re-experience
Church Music’
Pastor Nancy Foran, Music Director Karen Strange and the Raymond Village Community Church (RVCC) congregation invite everyone to come explore the wonderful and varied music of a new contemporary hymnal during a Hymnfest sing-along on Sunday, Feb. 23, from 3-4 p.m. at the church, 27 Main St. in Raymond Village. Admission is free.
The Hymnfest sing-along will creatively explore a variety of hymns from the new “Lift Up Your Hearts” hymnal through congregational singing supported by the voices of RVCC’s remarkable choir, Strange’s virtuosic piano, and other musicians playing a number of other instruments, in addition to readings and multimedia works.
“We want to showcase the depth and breadth of this wonderful collection for our colleagues in ministry and music, as well as all those who simply love to sing,” says Strange.
The 850 songs of “Lift Up Your Hearts” include the best of traditional church music and a large number of beautiful and exciting new works. Its music reflects and responds to the realities of a changing society. It breathes new life into congregational song, embracing the best contemporary hymns and religious songs and celebrating the greatest and loveliest of the old hymns as well.
“Many people have turned away from ‘Church’, not recognizing that moderate churches are vibrant and vital faith communities built on tolerance and a belief that everyone must be free to walk their own faith journey,” says Rev. Foran. “This new hymnal amplifies that vibrancy and vitality as it broadens the body of music we bring to worship.”
The new hymnal has been published by the Calvin Institute, an interdisciplinary center promoting the scholarly study of the theology, history, and practice of Christianity and the renewal of worship in communities across North America. RVCC’s Hymnfest is made possible by a grant from the Calvin Institute.
Raymond Village Church is located at 27 Main St. (Route 121) in Raymond Village, just 1?4 mile north off Roosevelt Trail (Route 302), due east of Sebago Lake. For more information about the Hymnfest sing-along, call the Church Office at 655-7749.

It is time once again to turn in those box tops for the PTO fundraiser. Students and staff should bring in their box tops through Feb. 14. Be sure to put your teacher’s name on each baggie so your class earns the credit. Thank you for your help with this ongoing PTO fundraiser.
