GORHAM – A series of unsolved fires nearly two years ago that struck vacant Gorham buildings is still under investigation, officials said this week.

“The six fires, which occurred from March 2012 through April 2012, are still open investigations, and no arrests have been made to date,” Gorham Detective Sgt. Dana Thompson said on Tuesday.

The 2012 fires included: March 27, a vacant home on Spiller Road; March 31, SnoGoers clubhouse, 209 Mighty St.; April 1, a vacant house on Great Falls Road; April 8, a two-car garage on Buck Street; April 11, a vacant house on Dingley Spring Road; and April 18, vacant property on Sebago Lake Road.

At the time, investigators ruled five fires as arsons, and the two-car garage fire was deemed suspicious. Two of those six fires occurred on religious holidays – Palm Sunday and Easter. The six fires occurred in the same general area.

Just because the fires have stopped doesn’t mean the investigation is hampered, according to Maine Fire Marshal Joe Thomas.

On Tuesday, Thomas advised Gorham residents to be “vigilant” around vacant properties.

Anyone with information can reach Thompson by calling the Gorham Police Department at 222-1660 or the Investigation Division at the fire marshal’s office, 626-3870.
