SANFORD — Police have announced a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person responsible for the armed robbery of the convenience store called “88 High Street” Jan. 25.
The robber, whom police said displayed a small, silver handgun, took the cash drawer and contents, and also allegedly fired a shot at the clerk who followed him out of the store before he got into an SUV that sped away. The clerk was not injured.
While there have been a number of robberies in which weapons were displayed in Sanford and other southern Maine communities in recent years, this appears to the first firing of a weapon in concert with a robbery in recent memory.
The suspect is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 190 pounds, according to police. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black-and-red checkered flannel jacket and a gray ski mask.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sanford Police at 324-9170 and press 4.
