FALMOUTH — A Portland man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly manufacturing counterfeit $20 bills.

Jonathan McDonald, 27, of 67 Rustic Lane, Portland, was charged with four felony counts of aggravated forgery after a two-week investigation, according to a news release Thursday morning from the Falmouth Police Department.

Portland and Falmouth police and the U.S. Secret Service executed a search warrant Tuesday at McDonald’s home, where they allegedly found the counterfeiting operation in the basement. Police also found more than $1,000 in counterfeit bills, copying machines and small amounts of heroin, the release said.

Earlier this month, phony $20 bills were discovered on six occasions at four Falmouth businesses – Wal-Mart, the Goodwill retail store, and two Dunkin’ Donuts shops. Police detectives were able to identify a suspect “shortly after receiving the complaints,” the release said.
