Woman’s club to hear Falwell
Gorham author and illustrator Cathryn Falwell will speak when the Gorham Woman’s Club meets at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, at First Parish Congregational Church, 1 Church St. Refreshments will be served at 12:30 p.m.
Mallory wins middle school essay contest
Gorham Middle School student Erica Mallory was awarded $250 on Dec. 20 for winning the Madison Prize for Written Excellence, an essay contest, School Committee member John Doyle announced.
Mallory’s essay was titled “What Makes America Great.”
Two runners-up, Kate Gilbert and Nick Pierson, each received $100 in the contest, which was sponsored by the Gorham Republican Committee.
Historians to meet
The Gorham Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, in the Gorham Savings Bank Operations Center on Gray Road (Route 202).
U.S. taxpayer debt
The Bureau of the Fiscal Service reported on Jan. 2 that the U.S. Public Debt was $17,315,970,933,899.63.
