RENO, Nev. — Robert Covington scored 26 points Wednesday and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers made a barrage of long-range baskets in a 126-106 victory against the Maine Red Claws in the D-League Showcase at the Reno Events Center.

Covington made 6 of 10 3-pointers to lead the Vipers, who made 18 of 43 from behind the arc.

The Vipers (14-3) made three of their first five 3-point attempts but missed their next seven. Maine (8-9) scored after four of those misses, including two 3-pointers, and also got the last six points of the quarter for a 26-20 lead.

The Vipers missed their first three 3-pointers in the second quarter but hit their next four. They added three in the quarter to pull ahead 68-60 at the half.

Maine made just 9 of 24 field goals in the third quarter and Rio Grande Valley steadily pulled away for a 101-83 advantage.

The Red Claws’ poor field-goal shooting continued in the fourth with Maine finishing the quarter 6 of 18.

MarShon Brooks scored a team-high 26 points, giving him at least 24 points in all five of his games with Maine.

Chris Wright followed with 25 points, Romero Osby finished with 20, Frank Gaines had 11 and Ty Walker closed the game with 10.

Christapher Johnson had 21 points and five other Vipers had double-digit points for Rio Grande Valley.

Maine will play three games in California beginning with Santa Cruz on Friday followed by Bakersfield on Saturday and Los Angeles on Monday.
