TOPSHAM — Sara McCrum Porter, age 84, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Cadigan Lodge, 54 Governor’s Way.

She was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Charleston, WV, the daughter of Arlington Bliss McCrum and Madeline Broderick McCrum.

She graduated from Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, OH. She attended Smith College in Northhampton, MA and graduated from Hollins University in Roanoke, VA. In 1955 she married Richard Sterling Porter of Wellesley Hills, MA and they lived in Charlottesville, VA, Cleveland Heights, OH and Preville and Westmount, Quebec before retiring to Brunswick, ME in 1988. They moved to Topsham in 2007.

Besides her husband of Topsham, she is survived by two sons, Edwin Ross Porter and his wife Karon Salch, John Sterling Porter; a grandson, Samuel John Porter of Brunswick; a brother Arlington Bliss McCrum Jr. and his wife Marcia of Livingston, MT; a niece and god-daughter, Hanna Henderson of Phoenix, AZ and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation will be Monday, Dec. 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. Following cremation her remains will be scattered in Casco Bay. For those unable to attend, condolences may be posted and a tribute of her life viewed at www.brackettfuneralhome.c om. A place of remembrance will be created in the family lot in Newton Cemetery in Newton, MA.
