The owners of a mobile home at 7 Starbird Lane, destroyed by fire on Christmas Eve, had the property insured, and neither was injured, Freeport Fire Chief Darrel Fournier said Thursday morning.
Richard and Diane Peacock spent the rest of the night at his brother’s home in town, Fournier said.
“They got out, so that’s the main thing,” Fournier said. “I imagine the insurance company will put them up somewhere.”
Fournier said that the fire started in an electrical motor that powered Richard Fournier’s hospital bed in the bedroom of the home, late in the afternoon. Both Richard and Peacock are ambulatory, Fournier said, but Richard Peacock has a medical issue.
“The fire started in the bed and spread to the rest of the home,” Fournier said.
