POWNAL – When they owned the North Pownal General Store, Erica and Tim Giddinge started a Facebook page, just to keep people informed of neighborhood goings-on.

More recently, Erica Giddinge has become more involved with Pownal Elementary School. Tim Giddinge, of course, is a member of the Pownal Board of Selectmen. They’re interested in community news.

Just before Thanksgiving, “A Pownal Page” became a reality on Facebook.

“Lately, I’ve been more involved with the school, and I wanted to get something going,” Erica Giddinge said. “This is basically a reminder of what (Tri-Town Weekly) is putting out. This conversation started a couple of years ago at the school, and it’s come to a head with the RSU news being so big now.”

A Pownal Page, in fact, posted a link to one of the many letters to the editor published in the Dec. 11 Tri-Town Weekly on the Regional School Unit 5 withdrawal issue.

Giddinge hastened to say that A Pownal Page stands on its own.

“We’re unofficial,” she said. “That should be stated very clearly.”

Including Erica Giddinge, who covers news from town government, A Pownal Page has four administrators. Kate Brown and Naomi Ledbetter, both RSU 5 board members, keep readers abreast of school news. Robin Hodsdon provides news from the Pownal Historical Society and the fire department.

“It’s a simple compilation of the comings and goings of our neighbors,” Giddinge said.

Giddinge also had decided to host a class on the “Safe Use of Facebook.” She is working to reserve a room and date at Pownal Elementary School.
