Thursday, Dec. 12: The Scarborough High School Chorus and Band are presenting a Holiday Concert at 7 p.m. at SHS Auditorium. Suggested donation is $5/person.

Friday, Dec. 13: Evelyn’s Tavern, in conjunction with the South Portland Police Department, is holding its 2nd annual Christmas Toy Drive. To give a gift to a local child in need, bring your new, unwrapped toys to the tavern located at 121 Sawyer St., South Portland before Dec. 16. Donations are also accepted. Saturday, Dec. 14: From 11 a.m.-1 p.m., meet local children’s author, Scott Nash, as he signs copies of his best-selling chapter book, “The High Skies Adventures of Blue Jay the Pirate” at Nonsuch Books’ Mill Creek, South Portland store. There will also be copies of his book, “Tuff Fluff,” on hand for autographing.

Monday, Dec. 16: A Community Cafe senior luncheon will be held at noon at Blue Point Congregational Church, 236 Pine Point Road, Scarborough. All are welcome. A donation of $5 for 60 and over is requested. Russ Burleigh will perform a special Christmas presentation entitled, “A History of American Christmas Songs.” Reservations required by Dec. 12 with Pam 510-4974.

Friday, Dec. 20: The Scarborough High School Chorus presents a Multicultural Choral Concert with a special invitation to area senior citizens from 10-11 a.m.cat SHS Auditorium. Admission is free.

Saturday, Dec. 21: Bean Supper, 5-6 p.m. at Peoples United Methodist Church, 310 Broadway, South Portland. Baked beans, casseroles, homemade pies and more. $8 each, $17 family.

Dec. 21: Join best-selling author and talk radio host, Howie Carr, for a signing of his new book, “Ratman,” at the Nonesuch Books in Biddeford Crossing from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 22: Longest Night Service, a service of healing and hope, will be held at 4 p.m. at Blue Point Congregational Church, 236 Pine Point Road, Scarborough. A simple meal of soup and bread will be served afterwards.

Jan. 8-29: Southern Maine Agency on Aging will be offering “Putting the Puzzle Together,” a four-part education series for people assisting older adult family and friends. It will be held at the SMAA office in Scarborough, on Wednesdays, Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29, from 5:15-7:15 p.m. Sessions include information about older adult health, community resources, living options, problem solving, and legal issues. Participants should plan to attend all four sessions. The flyer can be downloaded at www.smaaa.org. There is a suggested donation of $50 and pre-registration is required.
