According to South Portland police, two juvenile females reported being robbed at gunpoint by two males in the Brickhill area of the city at about 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30. One of the suspects was known to the victims, and the items stolen included personal items such as pocketbooks and a clutch, etc.
According to Sgt. Steve Webster, an intense investigation was initiated which led to numerous interviews and the execution of four search warrants on homes, a vehicle and cellular phones. The first warrant was served on a residence on Victoria Drive in Westbrook. As a result of that search, Devon Grant, 18, of Westbrook, was arrested and charged with trafficking in dangerous knives, a misdemeanor.
A subsequent search warrant was drafted and authorized for 14 Newbury St. in Auburn. The unannounced entry warrant was served by Auburn and South Portland police, and two suspects were located inside and arrested. The two juveniles arrested were charged with robbery, a class A felony. Since both of the suspects are juveniles, their names were not released. They both have ties to the Greater Portland area, but are described as transients by Webster. Both males are being held at the Long Creek Youth Developmental Center and should be brought to court later Monday.
On Tuesday, Webster released information regarding another suspect who was arrested. On Monday, Dec. 2, at about 2 p.m., Westbrook police assisted South Portland police with a search warrant at 53 Haskell St. in Westbrook. At the conclusion of that search, Samnang Im, also known as Junior Sok, 18, of Westbrook, was arrested and charged with class A robbery in connection with the robbery. He was not arrested on Haskell Street, but was taken into custody during a traffic stop near Methodist Road, Webster said.
Webster said Im was interviewed by investigators from both departments and at the conclusion of the interview, he was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and charged with two counts of class A robbery; one count for the South Portland incident, and one count for a similar incident that was reported to the Westbrook police on Nov. 28.
Im is being held on no bail due to the fact that he violated his bail as a result of the robbery charges, Webster said. He will be brought to court on Wednesday when a judge will set bail.
