TOPSHAM
The Cathance River Education Alliance and the Topsham Public Library invite the public to learn about the winter moth from the chief entomologist for the Maine Forest Service.
The program, part of the latest Community Nature Program, is 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the library, 25 Foreside Road.
The moth is an invasive insect that may reach your backyard, the program announcement states.
“This moth presents a major risk to many of our beloved Maine fruit and hardwood trees,” according to Charlene Donahue, chief forest entomologist with Maine Forest Service, who will speak at the event.
Charlene is responsible for the statewide forest insect surveys. “We’ll find out what we can do, where the moth has been detected so far, and how we can help spot the signs of emerging populations,” Donahue said.
The program is sponsored in partnership with Cathance River Education Alliance, Maine Forest Service, Brunswick Topsham Land Trust and the Topsham Public Library.
