GORHAM – Heavy equipment was at work this week preparing a site in Gorham for a new Martin’s Point Health Care facility that will open in about 10 months.
A 12,500- square-foot medical office facility at 571 Main St. will likely cost more than $5 million. The site is at Mosher’s Corner, the intersection of routes 25 and 237.
Its current medical officers in Gorham are at 510 Main St. The new facility is expected to be ready for patients in August of next year.
Dick Daigle, a Martin’s Point vice president, said Gorham Sand & Gravel of Buxton is performing the site work. The health-care provider broke ground for the new facility in a ceremony on Nov. 7.
“I am personally struck by the hard working and humble community in which this health care center will reside,” Jonathan Harvey, chief medical officer, said in last week’s ceremony.
Marty Wesolowski, the firm’s medical director in Gorham, said special features included a front door drop off location, a talk room where families could meet with health care providers, laboratory and digital imaging services, and a large community room.
“At Martin’s Point, it is our vision to be both a model and a leader in transforming (revolutionizing) the way health care is delivered for the communities we serve and our future generations,” said David Howes, president and chief executive officer.
Howes added, “And we hope this building will set a precedent for future health care centers, both locally and nationwide.”
David Galbraith, Gorham zoning administrator, called the project fabulous.
“They’ve been a great team to work with,” Galbraith said about the Martin’s Point development team led by Daigle. “Thank you for choosing Gorham.”
Dick Daigle, a vice president at Martin’s Point Health Care, points out details of the site for a new $5 million facility in Gorham. Groundbreaking was held last week for the facility.
