GORHAM – Two Gorham businessmen are opening a new venture, iSpoon Frozen Yogurt, in a freshly decorated store with bright colors, unique tabletops and stools.
Peter Davis and Chris Raney, both of Gorham, manage and own iSpoon, which is set to open at noon on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 102 Main St., in Gorham. The new business is located next to Olympia Sports in the Village Mall.
Opening day will feature a live radio broadcast and a rock band in the evening. According to a company statement, tentative hours are noon-9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 12-10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays.
Yogurt machines were to arrive on Wednesday.
“We’ll be open for business,” Davis said this week as workers prepared the inside for opening day. Customers, he said, “can come here and get a healthy treat.”
Davis said he and Raney are partners in another Gorham business, Raney’s Laundromat. The iSpoon location previously housed another Gorham laundry business.
Davis said that the seasonal closure of some area ice cream shops is the rationale for opening his yogurt business this fall. He sees this as the season for their business, which is not a franchise, to start and grow.
iSpoon will provide a variety of yogurt flavors.
“This is a premium product,” Davis said.
Yogurt smoothies will be available, and iSpoon will blend them. Customers can also build their own yogurt treats with products from its bakery display case and toppings bar.
Davis said the store would feature Maine produce like blueberries and strawberries.
Store de?cor includes brightly painted walls; tabletops made of material designed for dance floors and lighted from below; scoop stools; and 1960s style chairs.
“This is a California-style store,” he said. “It’s a place Gorham has never had.”
Davis said he and Raney traveled as far away as Florida and California to check out yogurt stores and their interior designs. They chose a mix of several places they liked. “We’re going to be unique,” Davis said.
They put together a business plan eight months ago.
The store will offer free Wi-Fi and Direct TV.
“We’ll be a venue for local artists,” he said.
Davis expects the store to attract customers ages 5 to 90, including families and college students.
“Kids are going to love this place,” Davis said.
