It’ll be Boo-tiful

The GNG Annual Halloween Party is a free event for all ages and will take place on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 4-6:30 p.m. at the GNG High School Gymnasium and Auxiliary Gym.

Come in costume and enjoy the fun. Costume contest begins at 4:30 p.m. There will be kids Halloween craft tables, Haunted House, fun and games for candy and prizes.

The Dunn School Patriot Parents PTO will be selling refreshments in the snack shack for a small fee.

B-Ball News

Registrations are now being accepted for Junior Basketball at Newbegin Gym in Gray for girls and boys in grades K-2. The program will begin on Nov. 16 and run for eight weeks.

Parents, please volunteer as a coach. The commitment is minimal. The Recreation Department will run the clinics and referee the games with your support and assistance.

Trail Clean-up

A Libby Hill Trail Clean-up Day is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26. All participants will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the trailhead. For more information, check out www.libbyhill.org.

Vote to Make a Change

There will be a state of Maine referendum election on Nov. 5. All Gray voters will vote at Newbegin Gym, 22 Main St. (in the municipal complex), where polls will be open from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. There are five bond issues regarding repairs to Maine National Guard Centers, Maine’s infrastructure, Maine Community College System, Maine Maritime and University of Maine.

Gray voter registration staff will be available for new voters to register or for existing Gray voters to change their address or name as follows at the polling place on Election Day, at Gray Town Office (in person) daily during regular business hours. You will need proof of identification (driver’s license, state ID, passport, birth certificate) and proof of residency (any piece of mail showing your Gray address).

Absentee ballots may be requested by calling 657-3339, written request to Town Clerk, 24 Main Street, Gray, Maine 04039, visiting the City Clerk’s office in-person during regular business hours or online at http://www.maine.gov/sos/cec/elec/absent.htm.

Absentee ballots must be delivered to the Town Clerk no later than 8 p.m. on Nov. 5. Any questions should be directed to the Town Office at 657-3339.

Turkey Day Donations

The Caring Community of Gray-New Gloucester is starting its seventh season coordinating holiday assistance to individuals and families in need in the towns of Gray and New Gloucester.

For folks in need of a Thanksgiving food basket, applications must be completed and turned in by Friday, Nov. 1. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at both town halls, Gray Public Library, Dunn, Memorial and Russell schools.

Saturday Suppers

A public supper of baked beans, casseroles, salads, homemade breads, desserts and beverages will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m. The First Congregational Church, Route 115, Gray will be presenting this event, and it is handicapped accessible. Cost for adults is $8. Children under 12 are $4.

The Legion’s monthly Bean Supper at 15 Lewiston Road will be on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 5-6 p.m. On the menu are pea and kidney beans, chop suey, cole slaw, hot dogs, breads and dessert. Holiday Craft Fair

The GNG 9th Annual Holiday Craft Fair is Saturday, Nov. 2 at Gray-New Gloucester High School (on Route 26/Libby Hill Road in Gray). It will feature, crafts, raffle, kids craft room, homemade baked goods, pizza, and sandwiches. Money received goes to helping families in need over the holidays.

Cemetery Tour

On Saturday, Oct. 26, from 2-5 p.m., join the Gray Public Library Association and the Gray Historical Society on a historical tour of the village cemetery. Tour highlights will include Henry Pennell, Lt. Charles Colley, “The Stranger” and Sara Jane Foster.

Tours will begin at the Gray Historical Society, 1 Main St. (Old Fire Barn) located at the intersection of Main St. (Route 100) and Route 115.

Admission is $5 per person or $10 per family to be purchased at the Gray Historical Society on the day of the tour. Proceeds will benefit the Gray Public Library Association and Gray Historical Society.

Library Closure Dates

The Gray Public Library will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 5, and Wednesday, Nov. 6, with normal operating hours resuming on Thursday, Nov. 7.

The library will continue to offer a pared-down selection of materials and free public Internet access. The library renovation project continues to progress on schedule with a projected end-date of mid-January.

Calling All Volunteers

On Saturday, Oct. 26, from 7-8 p.m., Gray Parks and Recreation is in need of five pickup trucks and 10-15 helpers to go to Freeport. They’ll be loading up jack-o-lanterns and dropping them back off at the Town Hall for storage until an event midweek. Call 657-2323.

On Wednesday, Oct. 30, from noon-5 p.m. many hands are needed to line Pennell Park paths with the jack-o-lanterns and light them right before all of the guests arrive.

If anyone would be interested in baking cookies/other baked goods for those that attend the event, donations can be dropped off Oct. 29 or 30. If you can assist with any of the above, contact the office at 657-2323.

Jack-O-Lantern Walk

The First Annual Jack-o-Lantern Walk in Pennell Park will be on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. Approximately 500 Jack-o-Lanterns will be lighted along the paths of the new Pennell Park.

Come enjoy the free self-guided walk through Pennell Park and view the pumpkins that will be carved by local communities for the Camp Sunshine Pumpkin Festival. Many carved by Gray-New Gloucester High School students. Hot apple cider and hot cocoa will be served.

Business Helping Business

A Harvest Vendor Fair will be held at the American Legion, 15 Lewiston Road in Gray on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Raffle Items, food and free admittance.
