Seth Kieran, in foreground, and Joe Maisonave, installers for ReVision Energy, ready the next solar panel for a new system on the roof of the East Windham Fire Station on Falmouth Road. Under the power-purchase agreement with Windham, ReVision, based in Portland, purchases, installs and maintains the solar equipment at the fire station. For the first six years, the town pays for the electricity at a discounted rate. In Year 7, Windham can opt to purchase the system outright, resulting in a dramatically lower cost of electricity for the next 20 years, officials say. At right, ReVision employees install panels along the rooftop of the fire station. The firehouse, located in a clearing with a south-facing slanted rooftop, presents a nearly ideal venue for solar power, said Matt Bush, ReVision’s project manager. The system, which has 156 panels, each capable of generating 255 watts, is expected to produce more than 4,000-kilowatt hours per month, which is enough to cover the power needs of the East Windham and North Windham fire stations.
