To the Editor:
I just left my brother’s funeral. There were at least 200 people there. I watched his son’s heart break. I heard many people speak about my big brother’s big heart and his helpful ways. He was a big man in many ways.
As I sit here thinking about him, I can’t help but think about the man who killed him out walking around. He is not a threat to anyone, police say. He shot my brother three times because my brother had big hands, so his lawyer says.
I keep hearing how this killer was fearing for his life. My brother had no weapon and was the one who was threatened and killed.
Why is his killer out walking around? Is there anyone who could give me an answer that makes sense?
I would hope so, but I don’t think any sense can be made of this family tragedy.
Rest in peace, big brother. And to the lawyer defending the shooter, the big scary guy with hands as big as baseball mitts was my brother, Carlton Kelley. He did have a name.
