Main Street welcomes trick-or-treaters
Halloween on Main Street will take place this Friday, Oct. 25 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. The Westbrook/Gorham Chamber invites children of all ages are invited to participate in the trick-or-treating at local businesses. The parade starts at 5:00 p.m. and a costume contest will be held at 5:30 p.m.
After-school theater programs to start
Acorn Productions, 90 Bridge St., has announced two community collaborations that will bring theater educators into after-school programs in Westbrook.
The Westbrook-based nonprofit company has received a $3,000 grant from the Davis Family Foundation to support a series of free improvisational comedy workshops for Westbrook teens at My Place Teen Center. In these workshops, participants will work with faculty members of the Acorn Acting Academy to gain confidence and self-esteem through theater exercises.
The program addresses the need for community building and will run at the teen center for four, six-week sessions this school year.
Acorn Productions is also collaborating with the Westbrook Community Center to teach a K-12 acting class focusing on introductory theater skills while creating an original short play celebrating Maine’s fall vegetables. Young actors present their production, “Playing With Your Food,” at the end of the session for friends and family.
Acorn will be partnering with the community center for five, eight-week sessions throughout the school year.

‘Legacy’ DVD course at church
First Evangelical Free Church, 355 Bridgton Road in Westbrook, is the location of a seven-week, DVD course, “The Legacy Journey,” with classes beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
The course, taught by New York Times best-selling author and radio show host Dave Ramsey, “shows families and individuals what to do once they have control of their finances, and helps them navigate their way through building wealth so they are able to leave a lasting legacy,” a Ramsey organization statement said.

Art collective to exhibit landscapes
Representative landscapes in oil by Chuck Thompson will be exhibited in the Main Gallery at Saccarappa Art Collective, 861 Main St., for six weeks beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 30, and continues through Saturday, Dec. 7.
An opening reception will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2.
“Thompson’s spiritual connection with nature, light and atmosphere is expressed with direct and muscular painting technique, transforming views of local scenery into celebrations of the earth’s beauty,” a gallery statement said.
Thompson joins guest artists Francine Schrock, Laurie Proctor-Lefebvre, and Saccarappa member artists Andy Curran, Sherry Ballou, Mary Brooking, Jim Flahaven, Tanya Fletcher, Caren-Marie Michel, Frank Valliere and Julie Vohs in the members’ gallery.
