Thanksgiving Baskets

The Windham Food Pantry is providing Thanksgiving Baskets to more than 200 Windham residents in need. Donations of cash or food (turkeys needed!) are being accepted at the Family Resource Center and Town Hall, Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The Windham Clothes Closet continues to be open Mondays and Tuesdays 10 a.m.-noon. Clean and gently used winter clothing is always welcome.

Council Candidates on Speakout

On Thursday, Oct. 24, Bill Diamond will host Speakout on Windham’s local Channel 7 at 7 p.m. This month Bill is inviting the Town Council Candidates to talk about the issues of the town. Please feel free to call in with your questions during the show at 892-0546. You are also welcome to come to the Windham Town Office, Council Chambers, and be part of the audience.

Chicken Pot Pie Supper

On Saturday, Oct. 19, the Knights of Columbus Council 10020 will hold a chicken pot pie supper from 5-6 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish Hall, Route 302, North Windham. Tickets are $9 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under and are sold at the door. A portion of the proceeds will benefit turkey baskets for people in the Windham area. The recent lobster dinner to benefit the Windham Food Pantry resulted in a donation of more than a ton of food and needed supplies to benefit Windham residents.

Digital Age Effects

“Public Broadcasting in the Digital Age,” will be held on Monday, Oct. 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Windham Public Library, Windham. Henry Laurence discusses how new media has changed the traditional press. The event is sponsored by the Raymond Village Library (655-4283), the Windham Public Library (892-1908) and the Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce through a partnership between the Mid-Coast Forum and the Maine Humanities Council.

Tea for You

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 1:30-2:30 p.m., the Windham Public Library hosts an informal tea in the meeting room. All ages are welcome to stop in, share conversation, tea and goodies. This is an informal get-together.

Bean Supper

On Saturday, Oct. 26, the veterans of VFW Post 10643 and Field-Allen Post 148 American Legion will hold an old-fashioned bean supper at the Windham Veterans Center. Proceeds will benefit the Veterans Helping Veterans Fund. The supper will be preceded at 4:30 p.m. with a ceremony to recognize local businesses and individuals for their support over the past year. The supper will follow, from 5-6:30 p.m. Adults $8, children under 12 free. For more information contact Dave at 892-1306.

Halloween Party, Parade

On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Raymond Village Community Church is sponsoring a Halloween Party and Parade for all area children, from 3-4:30 p.m. at the church on Main Street, featuring games, crafts, storytelling and snacks. Free Harvest Dinner

On Saturday, Oct. 26, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., a roast turkey dinner will be served free at Christ Chapel, 37 Northern Pines Road, Raymond. Open to the surrounding communities. All ages are welcome.

Veterans Services

Veteran services at Windham will continue with support from Jerry Smith out of the Lewiston VA Office. He will be covering the position until a replacement is found for Phyllis D’Orsay sometime next spring. Jerry will be at the Windham Veterans Center on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m.-noon to assist veterans and answer questions about veterans benefits. Jerry can be reached at 783-5306.

Senior Center

The public is invited to a free lunch on Monday, Oct. 28, at the Lakes Region Senior Center located at Sunset Ridge Golf Links on River Road near the Westbrook line. At 11 a.m., In-Home Senior Services will host a luncheon of beef stew, mac and cheese, rolls, beverage and dessert. Call Marge at 892-4955 by Tuesday, Oct. 22, if you plan to attend to assure ample supply of food. The Center is open at 9 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
