Rev. William R. Campbell, president of Cheverus High School, has announced that the school based in Portland has appointed Ruth Summers, of Scarborough, as its new director of admissions.

“I am so pleased to become a member of the Cheverus High School family,” said Summers. “Since 1917, Cheverus High School has produced the leaders of tomorrow, and I am thrilled to join a long tradition of academic excellence and community leadership.”

Summers comes to Cheverus from a position as executive director of The Education Foundation of Portland, Maine, the nonprofit component of Education Management Corporation. From 2002 to 2012, she was responsible for raising and awarding more than $1 million in yearly scholarships.

Summers has been a member of the United States Naval Reserve since 1997 and is a Lt. Commander serving as a Public Affairs Officer in Washington, D.C. Additionally, she has had multiple active duty assignments as a protocol office and public relations officer in the Pentagon, the Middle East, Boston, Massachusetts, Galveston, Texas, and throughout New England as a member of the Navy Information Bureau 101.
