Congressman Mike Michaud, middle, recently presented World War II veteran Erroll L. Libby’s children, Susan and Peter, with replacement medals, which had been stolen during the war. Libby was a tailgunner in the U.S. Army Air Corps, now known as the Air Force, and served as a gunner on B-24 airplanes on numerous missions over Europe. Libby, now deceased, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal (four times) with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (three times), World War II Victory Medal, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII. In addition, Mr. Libby earned the Sharpshooter Badge with Machine Gun Bar, Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar, and an Air Crewmember Badge. Upon discharge from the service, Libby attended and graduated from Bryant College and was employed as Comptroller of Maine Central Railroad until his retirement. Along with his wife, Peachy, they operated Libby’s Toy Shop at Oak Hill in Scarborough for 33 years.
