The Scarborough Senior Programs, Advisory Board will meet at 8:15 a.m. at Town Hall to invite new members to join the forum and to inform people about what the group does for the seniors in all surrounding areas. Coffee and doughnuts will be served.

Thursday, Oct. 17

Scarborough Garden Club’s, monthly meeting takes place at 12:30 p.m. at The Hillcrest Community Center, 108 Hillcrest Ave. Guest speaker is Lisa Colburn, author of “The Maine Garden Journal.” Guests and new members are always welcome, meetings are free unless otherwise noted. Saturday, Oct. 19

There will be a fundraising Italian dinner to support Michael Crolwey at the First Congregational Church Scarborough, 161 Black Point Road, from 5-7 p.m. MECA, and Michael’s firefighting communities, family and friends are partnering with the Dreams Foundation to raise funds for Michael’s wish going to Disney World with his family. On the menu are lasagna, spaghetti with white and red sauce, meat balls, rolls, salads, dessert, beverages. $15 teenagers and adults and $5 children, tickets at the door. There will also be a bake sale donated by FCC Youth Group and family portrait photo session signup. Donations may also be sent directly to “Michael Crowley Cancer Fund” at Saco Valley Credit Union, PO Box 740, 312 Main St., Saco, Maine 04072.

The South Portland Volleyball team which is a newly approved varsity sport at South Portland High School completely funded by the Boosters, is having a Silent Auction from 5-9 p.m. at JP Thornton’s. For more information, contact Bill Fenton at 669-4428.

Community Cafe is a catered lunch sponsored by Southern Maine Agency on Aging and held at Blue Point Congregational Church, 236 Pine Point Road, Scarborough, at noon. Come enjoy lasagna, salad, garlic bread, fruit, dessert, and drink. For those 60 and older, the suggested donation is $5. (Bring proof of age.) Not 60 yet? Come anyway for a $7 donation. Reservations required by Oct. 17 with Pam at 510-4974. Entertainment: Bob Merrill’s radios from the 1920s and 1930s.

Dialing 2-1-1 Maine connects you to a trained operator who can guide you through a comprehensive statewide directory of more than 8,000 health and human services available in Maine. The October Community Forum sponsored by South Portland/Cape Elizabeth TRIAD will provide insight and more information about this important service. The forum is free and open to all. This event will be held at the Cape Elizabeth Community Center, 343 Ocean House Road, from 2-3 p.m. TRIAD is made up of Cape Elizabeth and South Portland senior citizens, police, and community members who work together to address problems faced by older citizens. The sixth annual Trivia Bee to Benefit Project GRACE, takes place from 7-10 p.m. at The landing at Pine Point, 353 Pine Point Road, Scarborough. ??The Trivia Bee is Scarborough’s funniest fundraiser. ??You can create a team, sponsor the event, volunteer, or come to the Landing to enjoy the show. Create a team of three to match wits to test your trivia knowledge: add a fun team name and costume to complete the package. Lend a hand as part of the event committee or as a “worker bee” the night of the show. Cheer for your favorite team, enjoy treats by The Black Tie Company, and play along with the contestants. Maine Autism Alliance Sibshop takes place 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Maine Autism Alliance Community Center, 15 Pleasant Hill Road, Suite 104, in Scarborough. Sibshop is designed to support brothers and sisters who have siblings with autism. The group meets the second Thursday of every month and is for children ages 8-13 years old.
