Saturday, Sept. 28, was officially declared George Tevanian Day in Westbrook by mayoral proclamation, as Tevanian, who turned 66 that day, retired after 47 years of service at Hannaford, Shop ‘n Save and the former Martin’s supermarkets. Known as a pirate enthusiast, Tevanian received a few pirate-themed gifts from customers sad to see him leave. As part of his retirement party, Tevanian hosted a cookout, with proceeds benefiting the United Way of Greater Portland.
