Westbrook’s City Hall, located at 2 York St., is no longer for sale, according to City Administrator Jerre Bryant.

Bryant said at one point the entire 4.58-acre City Hall parcel was for sale. Now only the adjacent lot on the other side of York Street is listed, he said.

Bill Baker, Westbrook’s assistant city administrator for business and community relations, said the dimensions of the new lot are not drawn yet, but he expects the piece to be about 1.5 or 2 acres. The Boulos Co., a real estate agency, will handle the sale.

According to Bryant, the original plan called for the entire lot to be sold, at which point operations would have moved into the Fred C. Wescott Community Center, and the money from the sale of City Hall would have been used to complete nearly $4 million in repairs at the center.

However, there is not enough space at the community center to house City Hall.

Now, proceeds from the sale of another city-owned property, Prides Corner Elementary School, will help pay for repairs at the community center.

The major drawback for keeping City Hall operations at the current location is that the facility sits on prime commercial property. However, Bryant said, the city could end up making more money by selling the property off in two pieces.

Bryant said there has been some interest in the nearly 1-acre property, but so far nothing is official.
