The staff of Paws Applause, a natural pet supply store and grooming salon in Oak Hill Plaza, 27 Gorham Road in Scarborough, will host a pet adoption event and grand re-opening Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

“It will be a great event for pet owners,” said Dave Langley, who took ownership of the business in June.

Activities will include raffles, free samples of pet products, and demonstrations by pet trainers and other professionals.

Select proceeds of sales made during the event will benefit The Pixel Fund, part of Pixel’s Posse, a nonprofit organization established to raise money to support rescue and advocacy groups. The group, whose headquarters are in southern Maine, will be in attendance from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. with puppies and adult dogs available for adoption.

The Pixel Fund’s mission is to save lives that would otherwise be lost to the shelter system. The all-volunteer organization works to reduce shelter admissions by addressing the issues that cause people to give up their pets, to support low- and no-cost spay and neuter clinics, and to encourage reform of the shelter system.

Also on the day’s schedule is clicker training and therapy dogs, Classic Hound collars and leashes, pet communication by Kathy Drage, WHOM Pet-A-Palooza broadcast, Canine Caviar samples, pet massage by Eve Lucia, and pet wellness by Joyce Belcher, a certified herbalist specializing in work with animals.

Throughout the event, free samples of Oma’s Pride, a line of all-natural raw pet food, will be provided. Paws Applause is Maine’s largest supplier of raw food. Also, special pricing will be offered on Taste of the Wild and Canidae, two brands of grain-free dry pet food.

Paws Applause, located in Oak Hill Plaza in Scarborough, is celebrating a grand reopening this weekend.
