Jacob Griffin receives a mayoral proclamation at the Sept. 16 South Portland City Council meeting from Mayor Tom Blake in recognition for earning his Eagle Scout badge, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America and a level completed by only about 2 percent of all 84 million members since 1911. For his qualifying service project, Griffin, 15, led a team that improved drainage, built bleachers and repaired dugouts at the Wilkinson Park baseball fields.
