South Portland Police Chief Ed Googins dives headfirst into a special confection during a donut-eating contest held Saturday, Sept. 21, to celebrate the opening of Tony’s Donuts at 1095 Broadway. Participating in the event were City Councilor Michael Pock, Buy Local President April Cohen-Tracy, City Manager Jim Gailey (runner-up), Firefighter Josh Probislo (winner) and City Councilor Linda Cohen, who also heads the South Portland-Cape Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce. On its Facebook page, the shop reported a successful grand opening, with more than 3,000 patrons.
