Pack Meets

Windham Cub Scout Pack 805 will be holding their first Pack meeting of the Scouting season Monday, Sept. 23, at the Windham Middle School at 6:30 p.m. The Pack is in the midst of fall recruitment and welcomes boys in grades 1-5 who are interested in joining Scouting. Veteran’s Service Officer Retiring

Phyllis D’Orsay, the Veteran’s Service Officer who for the last several years has been providing VA support at the Windham Veterans Center on two Wednesdays each month, is retiring effective the end of this year. She will hold her last office hours at the WVC in November of this year. Anyone needing to avail themselves of her support is encouraged to see her before then. She will hold office hours from 9 a.m.-noon on the following dates: Sept. 25, Oct. 9 and 23 and Nov. 13. Everyone should anticipate a gap of several months before the VSO position will be filled.

Pig Roast

American Legion Post 148 will hold its 4th annual Pig Roast on Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Windham Veterans Center. Horseshoes and other events are being planned for the afternoon prior to the dinner, which will be from 5-6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public at $10 per person or $30 for a family of four or more. This is a great opportunity for veterans to see the center and enjoy a day of camaraderie. The Vet Center is located in back of Windham Mall.

Nutrition Workshops

A collaboration with Windham Community Garden, Windham Food Pantry and Windham-Raymond Adult Education will offer a six-week series of “Eat Well Nutrition Workshops.” The workshops will run from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning Sept. 24 at Windham High School (Room 302). They will be instructed by Brenda Bracy of USM Cooperative Extension. The sessions include recipes, a cookbook, tips on how to prepare healthy meals and snacks as well as save money on groceries. Those who complete the six-week series receive a Hannaford gift card, donated by Windham Community Garden. This is free to income-eligible individuals. Program about Manchester

On Monday, Sept. 23, Carol and David Manchester will present a program about ancestor Joseph K. Manchester, a Windham soldier who fought in the Civil War. The 7 p.m. program will be followed by a regular business meeting. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited. Suggested donation is $5. Windham Historical Society and Museum is located in the circa 1833 brick building at 234 Windham Center Road.

Bean supper

On Saturday, Sept. 21, a bean supper will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Assembly of God church, Cottage Road, East Windham. The menu includes two kinds of beans, salads, casseroles, rolls and desserts. Adults $6, children 6-12 $3, and under six, free.

Tour of Preserves

On Saturday, Sept. 28, two events will be hosted by Windham Land Trust as part of the Great Maine Outdoors Weekend. A guided tour of the Black Brook Preserve will be held at 10 a.m. Participants can view evidence of glacial activity, and see how beavers can impact an area. Meet at the Windham Center entrance to the preserve. Parking assistance will be available. At 7 p.m., a telescope education and sky-watching event will be held at the Pringle Preserve, which is located on the corner of the Windham Center Road and River Road. There is no charge for either event.

Marriage Intentions

The Windham Town Clerk’s office reports the following marriage intentions were filed recently: Jason Magyar and Erica Linscott, both from Windham; Casey Marston and Michal GaNung, both from Windham; Joellen Nitsche from South Portland and Michael Gallant from Windham; Alfred Carter and Ami Carver, both from Windham; and Justin Dore and Kaylin Regula, both from Windham.
