WINDHAM – On Saturday, Sept. 14, at 9:30 a.m. Windham police officers and firefighters were called to 137 Brand Road on a report of a residential propane leak.
Firefighters were able to control the leak within a half-hour and aired the building of fumes. No one was hurt.
According to Windham Police Sergeant Jim Boudreau, thieves stole copper heating pipes throughout the residence. In the process, the perpetrators severed a propane line filling the residence with the explosive gas. The burglars appeared to have fled the scene in a hurry leaving some tools and several lengths of copper behind. Boudreau said the theft occurred over a period of days.
Witnesses identified two vehicles in the area that were possibly connected to the burglary. One was a silver minivan operated by a blond female in her 20s. The other was a dark-colored SUV, possibly an older Jeep. One of the vehicles may have had a broken rear side or rear tinted window and possibly a broken door mirror.
As of Monday morning, no suspects have been identified. Anyone with information should call Officer Ernest MacVane at 892-1919, ext. 4420.
