TOPSHAM — The Coastal Youth Orchestra is looking for new members for its 11th season

Its mission is to provide the best orchestral experience possible for young musicians by promoting a supportive educational environment for young musicians to learn.

Coastal Youth Orchestra is made up of three ensembles that meet for rehearsals Tuesdays at Mt. Ararat High School.

— The “Fiddleheads” is a beginning strings ensemble recommended for students age 6-10 who are new to the violin, cello, viola or bass. This group is conducted by Nancy Roderick, who is well known for her enthusiasm and sensitivity and for her dedication to music education. Fiddleheads rehearse 4 to 5 p.m.

— The “Coastal String Ensemble” is an intermediate string ensemble open to string players age 11 to 14. This group meets from 5 to 6:15 p.m. and is also conducted by Roderick.

— CYO’s “Chamber Orchestra” is made up of more advanced string players with the addition of wind and percussion musicians. Karla Kelley is the conductor of this ensemble. Kelley is active throughout New England as a conductor and, since 1987, has served as conductor of the Maine State Ballet Orchestra that performs “The Nutcracker” at Merrill Auditorium each year.
