Lincoln has always been Ford’s luxury brand, but over time its cars and trucks gradually became mostly spin-offs of Ford products. Realizing it was losing some of its prestige, Ford officials decided to revive the brand with some all-new, uniquely designed vehicles. The first one to be produced by the revamped Lincoln Motor Car division is the mid-sized MKZ. Technically based on the Ford Fusion platform, the all-new MKZ bears no resemblance to the parent Fusion, what with its typically Lincoln-esque front end and swooping roof that can open almost completely. The Lincoln MKZ buyer can choose between a powerful turbocharged fourcylinder in-line engine; a strong V-6; or a technically advanced hybrid system that includes a four-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor. Where the latter is linked to a CVT transmission, the other engines rely upon the more traditional sixspeed automatic gearbox with front- or allwheel drive. This really seems like a recipe for success for Lincoln!
