Poetry series at Saccarappa
Past Maine poet laureate Betsy Sholl and poet Nate Amadon will be featured in a reading in the Lowry’s Lodge Poetry Series at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Saccarappa Art Collective, 861 Main St., in Westbrook.
Jim Donnelly and Anna Wrobel are hosting the event that includes a question-and-answer time with the poets,
Sholl is a teacher at University of Southern Maine and Vermont College of Fine Arts. Amadon is of Portland’s poetry series Port Veritas.
A $3 donation is suggested and refreshments will be served. For more information, call 591-7300.
Seniors to meet
Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, at the community center, 426 Bridge St. Dennis Healy will entertain.
Free kids safety day
Westbrook Public Safety along with Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution and the Westbrook Hannaford, will be hosting a free kids safety day on Saturday, Sept. 21, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in Westbrook.
Kids Safety Day will be held rain or shine in the parking lot between Hannaford and Saco & Biddeford Savings, at 2 Hannaford Drive.
The schedule of events is: 10:30 a.m., vehicle extrication demonstration; ?10:30 a.m.-1p.m., view smokehouse, fire trucks, ambulances and police cruisers; ?11a.m.-noon, visit a mock crime scene (inside the bank); ?11 a.m.-1p.m., meet Nickles, the bank mascot?; 1 p.m., car fire with live firefighting.
Also, K-9 demonstrations will be held every half hour beginning at 10:30 a.m. Free hot dogs, popcorn, water and soda will be available all day to participants.
Additionally, Ernie’s Cycle Shop and the Bicycle Coalition of Maine will be sponsoring a bicycle rodeo and providing bike safety checks throughout the event. The Michael T. Goulet Traumatic Brain Injury and Epilepsy Foundation will be giving away free bike helmets to the first 100 kids along with a fitting and safety check. Finally, the Maine Freemasons will be offering free child identification kits through their MECHIP Program.

Triad reminder
Gorham/Westbrook Triad will meet at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, in the gym at Presumpscot Commons, 22 Foster St., Westbrook. Triad is a collaborative effort of law enforcement, senior citizens, and community service providers to promote the well-being and safety of seniors.
Eagles’ silent auction
Westbrook Eagles, 89 Saco St., is hosting a silent auction from 5-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.
The public is invited and admission is free. The event features free appetizers and a cash bar.
It benefits funds fighting Alzhiemer’s, cancer, ?heart, kidney, diabetes, spinal cord ?and childhood illnesses. For more information, email eaglesnest2977@yahoo.com.
