VFW dinner – Wednesday, Sept. 18, 5-6:30 p.m., VFW Post 832, 50 Peary Terrace, South Portland. Roast chicken, potato, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls and dessert. $7.

Old fashioned bean-hole bean supper – Saturday, Sept. 21, 4:30 p.m., United Church of Christ at North Gorham, intersection North Gorham and Standish Neck roads, Gorham. Three kinds of beans baked in a hole overnight, rolls, cole slaw, salads, brown bread, pies, coffee, tea or punch. $9, $4.

Pig roast – Saturday, Sept. 21, 1-3 p.m., Scarborough Post 76 American Legion, Libby Road, Scarborough. Annual event to benefit Scouting in Maine, Boys and Girls State and other school functions. Roasted pig, cole slaw, corn on the cob, rolls, and many desserts. $14; live band, 50/50 and door prizes.
