BRUNSWICK
A local man was taken to Mid Coast Hospital Tuesday evening, after calling police to tell them he was “thinking of jumping” from the Frank J. Wood Bridge.
Police received the call shortly after 6 p.m., according to Deputy Chief Marc Hagan. But when officers arrived at the bridge spanning the Androscoggin River between Brunswick and Topsham, the caller was nowhere to be found.
Patrol officers Ed Yurek, Matthew Swan, Patrick Scott and Martin Renaldi eventually located the man, 21, on Bath Road near the CarQuest Auto Parts store. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital for evaluation.
No charges are pending, and the caller’s name was not released. He previously was taken into protective custody in 2009 and has a few minor incidents on his record, but “nothing too serious,” Hagan added.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
