Sept. 6-7: Auditions for Maine State Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” will be held Friday, Sept. 6, and Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Maine State Ballet Studios, 348 U.S. Route 1, in Falmouth. The auditions are open to dancers from any school in Greater Portland. Hopefuls must be able to commit to several performance dates and Saturday rehearsals in November and December. Dancers must be at least 7 years of age before Oct. 15. There is a $10 audition fee. For more information, email school@mainestateballet.org, or call 781-7672.

Saturday, Sept. 7: Vendors are wanted for Bonny Eagle Flea Market taking place Sept. 7 (rain date Sept. 14) from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Bonny Eagle Middle School parking lot, corner of routes 22 and 35 in Buxton. Table spaces for the BEHS scholarship fundraiser are $15 or six for $60. New school clothes and shoes $1-$2, antiques, toys, books, etc. Baked goods, drinks, snacks and lunch available. Call Karen at 692-2989 for more information or to reserve space. There were 92 tables in 2012.

Sept. 7: Naples United Methodist Church is sponsoring a block party on the Naples village green 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, casseroles, salads, dessert, beverages. Activities for all ages will include face painting, cupcake walk, bag toss, bocci ball, badmitten, and a shoe scramble.

Sept. 7: An AARP driver safety class will be presented at the Windham Public Library, 217 Windham Center Road, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. To register, call John Hammon, volunteer instructor, at 655-4943. Advance registration is required as class size is limited. Registration fee is $12 for AARP members, $14 for others.

Sept. 7: The 125th anniversary of the New Gloucester Public Library will be celebrated with a special exhibit at the monthly New Gloucester History Barn Open House, Route 231, from 9 a.m.-noon. The public is invited. Admission is free.

Monday, Sept. 9: The Windham Democratic Town Committee will hold its municipal caucus to nominate candidates for the Nov 5 ballot for North, South, At-Large district seats for the Town Council districts, two seats on the RSU 14 School Board, and Town Clerk. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Windham Public Library. The regular Dem’s meeting to follow. Contact person, Mark Bryant, WDTC chair, 892-6591.

Wednesday, Sept. 11: The staff of U.S. Senator Angus King is holding constituent outreach hours at Windham Town Hall 10 a.m. to noon. It’s an opportunity for area residents to meet directly with a staff representative to discuss specific problems, legislative issues or any concerns regarding federal government agencies. No appointment is necessary. For more information, please call 1-800-432-1599.

Saturday, Sept. 28: The First Congregational Christian Church in New Gloucester hosts a community contra dance from 7-9 p.m. The event will be held in the Vestry Community Room at 19 Gloucester Hill Road, and features live music with caller Kathryn Larson. All are welcome, with or without a partner. All dances are taught, no experience necessary. Admission is $8 adult, and $20 per family. For more information, go to www.ngucc.org, or call 926-3260.
