GHS class of ’83 to reunite
Diann (Furbush) Diaz has announced that the Gorham High School class of 1983 is planning its 30th reunion, to be held from 6-11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Spire 29, 29 School St., in Gorham.
Gorham House of Pizza is catering the meal and DJ Jim Fahey will provide music.

Woman’s club starts fall season
Gorham Woman’s Club will meet on Thursday, Sept. 12, at First Parish Congregational Church on Church Street.
Refreshments will be served at 12:30 p.m. followed by guest speaker Sally Manchester at 1 p.m. Manchester’s topic is osteoporosis.
A historical note
Gorham Academy opened on Sept. 9, 1806, with 33 students, according the Gorham Historical Society chronology. The Rev. Reuben Nason was preceptor.
Today, the old academy building is a landmark on the Gorham campus of the University of Southern Maine.
U.S. taxpayer debt
The Bureau of Public Debt reported on Aug. 28 that the U.S. public debt was $16,738,398,535,315.91.
