A site walk is planned for Monday, Sept.9, at 5 p.m., for a proposed two-story, 7,200-square-foot-building to be constructed at the location of the L.L Bean Flying Point Paddling Center on Flying Point Road in Freeport.
The proposal, which went before Freeport’s Project Review Board Aug. 14, includes a multipurpose meeting space and a daylight basement with lockers, showers and storage space. The building would be constructed to Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) standards, according to the company.
The new building would serve around 3,000 people annually.
According to Town Planner Donna Larson, the building proposal fits within zoning restrictions for the area. The proposal with met with concern by some residents of the Flying Point area who were worried about increased noise and traffic. Representatives from L.L. Bean addressed those concerns during the Aug. 14 meeting, said Lucy Lloyd, who lives on Flying Point peninsula.
“I did feel like my questions were answered,’ said Lloyd. “I just want to make sure the correct process is followed.”
L.L. Bean acquired the 29.8-acre property in 2003 for $2.6 million.
No one from Bean returned calls by the Tri-Town Weekly’s early holiday deadline Friday.
