Office hours

The Town Office in Durham hours are Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Wednesday closed and Thursday, 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. For more information, call 353-2561. The office will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 2.

Meetings

The Planning Board meets Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m., in the town office.

The Durham PTA will hold its first meeting of the 2013-14 school year meeting on Monday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m., in the Durham Community School Library.

Selectmen meet Tuesdays, Sept.10 and 24, at 6:30 p.m., at the town office.

The Durham Historical Society is meeting Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m., at the

Old Town Hall/Union Church.

The Eureka Community Center Committee will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m., at the Eureka Center. New members are welcome to attend.

CEO available

The codes enforcement officer is available on Wednesdays, Sept. 11, 18 and 25, from 5-7 p.m., at the Durham Town Office.

Supper to benefit food pantry

A bean supper will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, from 4:30-6 p.m., at the Masonic Lodge, Route 136 across from River Park. On the menu are baked beans, chop suey, hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw, bread, pickles and homemade pies. Prices are $7.50 adults, $3 children ages 5-12, free for children under 5. The supper is a benefit for Lisbon Area Christian Outreach. Non-perishable food items will be collected.

Before- and after-school care available

Spaces are available at the Regional School Unit 5 Recreation and Community Education Laugh and Learn child care before- and after-school programs, located at the Morse Street School (K-2) and Mast Landing School (3-5) in Freeport, the Durham Community School (K-5) and the Pownal Elementary School (pre-K to 5).

Morning hours begin at 7 in Freeport and Durham. During the morning hours, children are provided a variety of craft projects and creative centers within the classroom. After school, there is time for play on the playground equipment, on the school trails or in the gymnasium. Also, the program provides an environment for children to do their homework and/or receive assistance with their studies. A healthy snack is provided during the aftercare portion of the day. The aftercare day ends at 5:30.

A new aftercare and kinder care program will start in the fall at the Pownal Elementary School. Kinder care hours in Pownal are projected as 11:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m., or 11:45 a.m. -5:30 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays Thursdays and Fridays. Programming will be designed to enhance the kindergarten curriculum. Aftercare will be 3:30-5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (pre-K to Grade 5).

Food pantry open Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday

Lisbon Area Christian Outreach serves the towns of Bowdoin, Durham and Lisbon Falls.

The hours are Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m.-noon and Saturday 8-10 a.m. The Food Pantry is located at the Marion T. Morse School on School Street. The parking lot for the food pantry is behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church off Berry Avenue. In addition to the food pantry there is a free clothing bank. Community center for rent

The Durham Eureka Community Center is available to rent for small groups of 50 or less. It is appropriate for showers, birthday gatherings and meetings. For rentals, contact Nancy Decker at 751-1323, who is now in charge of the Eureka Center scheduling and rentals.
