Scarborough Community Services’ 55-Plus Programs, hosts its Annual Senior BBQ at Memorial Park from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. Join in for burgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken and all the fixings and entertainment at 12:30 p.m. by the talented Jose? Duddy. There will also be raffle tickets to purchase for many great gifts. Deadline for registration is Monday, Aug. 26, by 4 p.m. Tickets are $6 per person. Southern Maine Agency on Aging will be offering “Putting the Puzzle Together,” a four-part education series for people assisting older adult family and friends, at the SMAA office in Scarborough, on Tuesdays, Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24, from 5:15-7:15 p.m. Sessions include information about older adult health, community resources, living options, problem solving and legal issues. Participants should plan to attend all four sessions. There is no charge, but pre-registration is required. Join best-selling Maine children’s author, Lynn Plourde, for a reading from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. of her new picture book, “You’re Wearing That to School?!” Kids will have a chance to talk to Lynn, ask questions, and have a book signed after the reading. The Robbie Foundation, based in Scarborough, will hold its first annual 5K race, 1.5-mile walk and kids fun run in Back Cove in Portland. Registration starts at 6:45 a.m. with the race and walk starting at 8:30 a.m. There will be awards for a variety of categories including first male and female overall. All proceeds will go to provide adaptive equipment, therapy treatments and other services, that are not covered by insurance, for children and youth with developmental disabilities in Maine.
