FREEPORT – According to Freeport officials, starting at 8 a.m., Monday, Aug. 19, Desert Road in Freeport will be closed to through-traffic for a cross-culvert replacement in preparation for paving. The closed section will begin at 52 Desert Road.

This one-day road closure is being done in order to reduce the project cost and to eliminate the need for several days of single-lane traffic control at the culvert project, officials said. Alternate routes will be from Hunter Road to Merrill to Desert Road and from Desert Road to Webster to Old County Road to Route 1.

Once this and other culverts are replaced, the road surface will be repaved later in the month, officials said.
