FREEPORT — The Wishful Moon, a gift shop and gallery, is now open.

The store features Maine-made products including jewelry, photography, original artwork, woodwork, furniture, bags, pillows, placemats, pens, notecards, pottery and its own line of all natural bath products.

Owner Stephanie Petkers recently left her 24- year career in the elevator industry to open a store in her hometown of Freeport that offered something unique.

“I was traveling every week away from home and family and missed Maine every day,” Petkers said. “I had an idea for a business to use my education and experience in marketing and customer care to help promote the talented artists in Freeport and the surrounding areas and showcase their artwork in a comfortable setting.

“The 12 School St. building offered just the right combination of charm and location that I envisioned,” she continued. “We hope to build a following of locals in addition to the seasonal tourists and become the one-stop shop for gifts of all kinds, as well as special treats for those ‘just because I deserve it’ occasions.”

The Wishful Moon offers a wide variety of selection in every price range and is adding new artist partners daily.

The store is located on the corner of School and Middle streets and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, call 865-4400, go online at www.thewishfulmoon.com, or email thewishfulmoon@gmail.com.
