WINDHAM – A Windham police cruiser was in the wrong place at the wrong time Tuesday afternoon when a set of utility poles were pulled down by a passing truck in North Windham.

At about 5:30 p.m., a tractor-trailer owned by Parsonsfield-based M.H. Humphrey & Sons was traveling north on Route 302 near the intersection of Route 35 in front of Walgreens. According to Windham police, the truck hit an overhead wire holding up lane directional signs. In the process, two utility poles fell shutting down the two eastbound lanes of Route 302.

One of the wooden poles landed on the roof of a 2013 Ford Police Interceptor utility vehicle operated by Sgt. Jason Andrews which was exiting the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot at the time.

No one was injured and the cruiser was the only vehicle struck by the falling utility poles, police say. The two lanes of southbound traffic were shut down for about an hour as crews removed the debris. No charges are expected to be filed against the truck driver, police said.
