South Portland Public Library presents an evening with author and retired Maine Game Warden John Ford, on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 6:30 p.m.

The event will be at the Main Library located at 482 Broadway in South Portland. Ford has written two memoirs of his thrilling and often funny adventures as a Maine Game Warden: “Suddenly, the Cider Didn’t Taste So Good: Adventures of a Game Warden in Maine” and “The Cider Still Tastes Funny!: Further Adventures of a Game Warden in Maine.” This event is presented by the Friends of the South Portland Public Library and is offered free to the public. Books will be available for purchase, and there will be a signing by the author following the event.

Ford began his career in 1970, serving as a district game warden assigned to the Unity district in northern Waldo County, an area noted for its abundance of deer, and even more noted for its abundance of poaching. During his 20 years of service as a warden, Ford kept a daily diary of his patrols as a remembrance of the humorous and interesting events he encountered on a daily basis, and it is from these entries that he crafted the stories that are the subjects of his two memoirs.
