Bath Iron Works is being awarded a $7.5 million cost-plus-award-fee modification contract for work on the littoral combat ship USS Independence.

The contract — first reported by the trade industry publication Marine Link — is an add-on to the previously awarded agreement for engineering and management services, advance planning and design in support of the USS Independence.

Bath Iron Works will provide design, planning, and material support services for the vessel. Efforts will include program management, advance planning, engineering, design, material kitting, liaison and scheduling.

Fifty-five percent of the work will be performed in Bath; 45 percent in San Diego, Calif., and is expected to be completed by March 2014.

Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair in Bath — also known as Sup- Ship — is managing the contract in Bath.
